Newspaper 6 theme reviewI would suggest using Newspaper 6 theme which I am utilizing on my WordPress website. Look at some points from my review to see why Newspaper 6 would be the best Blog, news and magazine WordPress theme for SEO optimized and easy page building.

Newspaper 6 WordPress theme review

As one of the best-selling themes on Themeforest, Newspaper theme should be one of the best choices for news page, magazine site, blogging… Version 6 (recently 6.3) of this great theme really impress me with unmatched flexibility some of its strong points are: elegant design, retina ready layouts, unique demos, integrated translations, intelligent ads system, and no coding skills necessary. Furthermore, the theme is designed to integrated with bbPress Forum, BuddyPress, Buddy Press, and WooCommerce.

Newspaper 6 is provided with flexible and smart Homepage builder

As for me, an unprofessional coder, the greatest thing I suppose is the flexible and smart Homepage builder:

Flexibel Homepage building in Newspaper theme

You can totally creatively make your desired homepage.

Newspaper 6 and my SEO Experience

Newspaper theme is supported by Tagdiv team. They put up forums to solve all problems and concerns related. However, you can not access their assistance without purchasing the theme. It therefore turns to troubles if you just purchase, download and install the theme without looking for useful related information around.

I experienced a very terrible circumstance. After I installed the theme for the first time, I experienced traffic dropped gradually by 30%. After study this theme, I found out the theme has several SEO issues that you can fix your self:

1. No H1 or H2 tags on the home page
2. No H2 tags on archive pages
3. Many missing alt tags on images
4. One user reports that this setting in WordPress SEO doesn’t work: Titles and Meta > Other > Noindex subpages of archives.
5. If you installed 6.2, your site may have been clobbered by a WordPress SEO incompatibility issue that has since been resolved in the current theme version.

All above issues should be solved already in the coming version at the time you read my article. However, you should pay attention on them. I now do not encounter any SEO problems. All new post is nearly indexed immediately by Goole once they are published.

How to improve the Page speed on Newspaper theme?

This is some of the custom code I put at bottom of my functions.php file EVERY time the theme is updated, and for ALL our websites, regardless of theme (with some new code for Visual Composer in this iteration).

Basically this code helps with various things – some of which are needlessly often done in plugins and don’t need to be – including things for PageSpeed rating, and general optimizations such as default image compression level for thumbnails, etc.

Use if you wish; but please *do not* go post this in a blog article as if it’s your idea or I’ll come and punch you :-)

this also includes code you might not need
a) remove visual composer CSS from post pages
b) remove pingback URL
c) change default WP thumb compression from 90 to 50 (some like 60)
d) remove yoast admin bar (annoying)
e) add go away message for people trying to login guessing passwords; great to use with limit login attempts
f) delete enclosure in RSS feed
g) disallow some things in comments for security

/*CHRISTOPHER's CUSTOM MODS - 1.10.15 rev15A - (c) 2010-2015 Chris Simmons */

 remove_action( 'wp_head', 'wp_generator' ) ;
 remove_action( 'wp_head', 'wlwmanifest_link' ) ;
 remove_action( 'wp_head', 'rsd_link' ) ;
 remove_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links', 2 );
 remove_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links_extra', 3 );

 add_filter( 'pre_comment_content', 'wp_specialchars' );

 function no_errors_please(){
   return 'You appear to be up to no good. Please stop now!';
 add_filter( 'login_errors', 'no_errors_please' );

 /* Disable YOAST SEO Admin Bar. */
 function mytheme_admin_bar_render() {
 	global $wp_admin_bar;
 // and we hook our function via
 add_action( 'wp_before_admin_bar_render', 'mytheme_admin_bar_render' );

 function delete_enclosure(){
  return '';
  add_filter( 'get_enclosed', 'delete_enclosure' );
  add_filter( 'rss_enclosure', 'delete_enclosure' );
  add_filter( 'atom_enclosure', 'delete_enclosure' );

 function remove_cssjs_ver( $src ) {
     if( strpos( $src, '?ver=' ) )
         $src = remove_query_arg( 'ver', $src );
     return $src;
 add_filter( 'style_loader_src', 'remove_cssjs_ver', 10, 2 );
 add_filter( 'script_loader_src', 'remove_cssjs_ver', 10, 2 );

 add_filter( 'jpeg_quality', create_function( '', 'return 50;' ) );

 function remove_pingback_url( $output, $show ) {
     if ( $show == 'pingback_url' ) $output = '';
     return $output;
 add_filter( 'bloginfo_url', 'remove_pingback_url', 10, 2 );

 add_action('init', 'myoverride', 100);
 function myoverride() {
     remove_action('wp_head', array(visual_composer(), 'addMetaData'));

function dequeue_visual_composer_css() {
if (is_single()) {
add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'dequeue_visual_composer_css', 1003);

last item removes Visual Composer CSS from “post” pages (single). You would not use that if you use VC for anything on posts, obviously.

For those using mod_pagespeed on Apache or other server type:

Here are my custom “works best with WordPress” settings which I add to my sites in the .htaccess file, at top, above the WordPress rewrite module stuff.

You generally do NOT want to use the javacript modification stuff with WordPress.
This is compatible with both Newspaper and Newsmag, and with TagDiv Speedbooster plugin.

<IfModule pagespeed_module>
ModPagespeed on
ModPagespeedEnableFilters collapse_whitespace
ModPagespeedEnableFilters remove_comments
ModPagespeedEnableFilters rewrite_images
ModPagespeedEnableFilters insert_dns_prefetch

All of this “obviously” goes AFTER the WordPress elements generated when WP is setup.

Indeed, I hope my review today will somehow indicate why Newspaper 6 is really a good choice that you should consider using it. Cheers!

I have same issue with Newspaper theme – massive traffic drop when I switched to this
theme. Now I’ll use this “Magic bunny code” and see what will happen in next
few days. Thanks!

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
